Florence  or Firenze  April 17 - 19, 2006
The famous Duomo (Cathedral) in Florence made of 3 colors of marble. On the left is part of the octagonal Baptistery.
The bottom of the Campanile (bell tower) and more of the Duomo.
The front of the duomo. We stood in line here for about 20 minutes to go inside.
Close up of the central doorway.
Inside of the dome.
The bronze doors of the baptistery.
Piazza della Republica - a busy square in the center of old Florence. We had pizzas for supper in the cafe on the left behind the two cars. They are renovating the building in the center. The white part with windows is actually the fabric covering the scaffolding.
One of the things I love about European cities is the narrow streets. Here are some I came across in Florence, and a small food shop in one of them.
Another narrow street with shops and an even narrower alley.
The courtyard of the Palazzo Vecchio.
The Uffizi - former office building - now a famous art museum.
Looking across the River Arno.
The Ponte Vecchio. Shutters in Tuscany are there to be used, not just for decoration.
Looking down from the Ponte Vecchio.
Some of the shops lining the Ponte Vecchio.
Another street in the city center.
The church of Santa Maria Novella. The only time on our whole trip that we saw rain was one afternoon in Florence.
Next Stop - Pisa
