October 2007

Our first month here has flown by. When my mother was here we went to visit the Ile de la Cité, where we visited the Sainte Chapelle, the Conciergerie and the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris. 

This page is just some shots taken in the streets of Paris.

On the last weekend of October we rented a car and drove out to Troyes, stopping at the chateau Vaux-le-Vicomte on the way.

 

September 2007

Paris - We are in Paris for 3 months from September through November. I will add some photos from my explorations around the city. My first excursion was to the Place des Vosges. I have been to my local market several times. One day I headed out to explore the Canal St. Martin by boat.

September 15th and 16th were special days throughout Europe, where many museums and buildings were open to visitors and were free. Some of these spaces are not normally open to visitors. I spent Saturday at the Chateau de Vincennes, and Sunday in Paris in the VII-th arrondissement. Here are the pictures I took of the various ministry buildings.

Paris has many lovely parks. Here are pictures of my visit to the Jardins du Luxembourg, and les Jardins des Tuileries.

And here are some pictures of the Carnavalet museum in the Marais district of Paris.

On Sunday, September 30 we tried again to take the boat trip through the Canal St. Martin.

May 18 - June 4, 2007

Vichy, Charroux , Paris and St Remy les Chevreuses,  France (May 18 - 28)  (under construction)

Jim and I flew to paris on my birthday, spent a day there and then took the train to Vichy, where he took language classes in the mornings and played golf in the afternoons for the next week. This program is run by Cavilam and offers many options. I walked around Vichy and drove to a small medieval village one day. At the end of the week we drove to St Remy les Chevreuses for a family reunion. (The pictures of Paris and St Remy are in the gallery.)

 

Utrecht,  The Netherlands (May 28 - 31)

On May 28th I took a train from Paris to Utrecht with my brother and sister, their families and my mother. We spent 2 days in Utrecht.

 

 Oslo and Eigersund, Norway (May 31- June 4)

We traveled to Norway, arriving late outside of Oslo. We took a train into the city the next day and spent about 2 hours walking in Oslo. Then we flew to Stavanger, where we split up. My mother and I went to Egersund to meet some relatives we had never met before. Beth and her family went to spend a few days with Kevin's relatives, then came to Egersund to join us.
