Here's how it looked when we got started. We replaced that stove and microwave, but I didn't get pictures of the new ones.
These three girls gave up school, work and spring break to come help us. I think Wendy gets the most kudos for giving up her spring break. They worked tirelessly the whole time they were there.
And here's a much better picture of them sent to me by Vicky McCoy.
Removing the black paper exposed another layer, which turned out to be much more difficult to get off.

All gone! (The ceiling still needs to be painted in this picture.)
The border went across the kitchen too.
So that was also removed. Teresa painted this window, which was a huge improvement, but I didn't get a photo of it either, afterwards.

Wow! Look at that huge piece coming off! Mostly it came off in little bits.
Nope, no paper here.
It was tight getting the fridge back in its place, but nice to not have it in the middle of the room anymore.
Poor little hole in the ceiling kind of like the economy, looked bad, but it was going to be much worse before it got better.
After Jim removed the rough edges, added some wood support and dry wall patch and mud. This stuff goes on pink and dries white.
Next morning, Ceci added another layer of mud.
The next morning, Teresa added another layer. And now it us up to Dale to add the last layer, sand, prime and paint.
Dale, you have to send me some more pictures of this ceiling and the rest of the kitchen.
Here's one Kathy took of the new stove and microwave. And now I remember why I didn't take one. I like my after pictures to show cleaned up rooms. Since we didn't have time to get this room completely cleaned up, I just didn't take more pictures here. If you don't remember what the old stove looked like, scroll back up to the top of the page.
