I've lost count of the number of times we've been to France. We have French
friends who say we've seen more of France than they have and it may be true. We've visited Normandie, Bretagne, Alsace,
Lorraine, Les Alpes, Le Côte d'azur, le Dordogne, l'Allier, l'Auvergne, and l'Ile de France.
In May, 2010, we spent a week in Normandie, staying in a cute stone cottage.
The photos from that trip start here. Normandie
In 2007, we
spent 3 months in Paris--September-November. It was great living there, shopping, cooking, and doing lots of walking in the
city. In May we spent a week in Vichy.
So here are my pictures from those two visits to France in 2007.
May 2007 Jim and I flew to
Paris on my birthday, spent a day there and then took the train to Vichy, where he took language classes in the mornings and
played golf in the afternoons for the next week. This program is run by Cavilam and offers many options. I walked around Vichy and drove to the small medieval village of Charroux one day.
September 2007 Paris
- My first excursion was to the Place des Vosges. I shopped in a local market once or twice a week. One day I headed out to explore the Canal St. Martin by boat. September 15th and 16th were special days throughout Europe, where many museums and buildings were open to
visitors and were free. Some of these spaces are not normally open to visitors. I spent Saturday at the Château de Vincennes, and Sunday in Paris in the VII-th arrondissement. Here are the pictures
I took of the various ministry buildings that were open on that day. Paris has many lovely parks. Here are pictures of my
visit to the Jardins du Luxembourg, and les Jardins des Tuileries. And here are some pictures of the Carnavalet museum in the Marais district of Paris. On Sunday, September 30 we tried again to take the boat trip through the Canal St. Martin.
October 2007 My mother came
over at the end of September and stayed for 10 days. She and I went to visit the Ile de la Cité,
where we visited the Sainte Chapelle, the Conciergerie and the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris. This page is just some shots taken
in the streets of Paris. On the last weekend of October
we rented a car and drove out to Troyes, stopping at the chateau Vaux-le-Vicomte on the way. On October 30, I went to visit a park in the 20th arrondissement, that
I had heard was very nice. The Parc de Belleville.
November 2007 In
November we had more company and though I took lots of pictures, I didn't find the time to put them on web pages. I have
assembled some of those pictures on these pages and hope to get to more of them as I get the chance. Close-up shots of some monuments and tall buildings. Some
ceilings in Paris. The National Library of France, built in 1995.
